Haiku - Natural Alarms
NATURAL ALARMS
~~~~~~~~~~~~
spring procreation
summer... autumn... helps
for some winter works
time tellers... birdsong
dawn... the skylark up so high
country life... birds thrill
time tellers... birdsong
nightingales... lullabies... sleep
owls hoot till dawn
rooks 15 minutes long
the flock at dusk and dawn caw
not no more... all gone*
sparrows my alarm
every morn they tweet me... call
starlings amaze me**
**they share the roost... two
not many... clicks... long whistles
churrings aplenty
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* For some twenty years I watch the flock grow. Followed it from roost to fields, then one day in 2014 it was gone. I checked the roost, it was for the most still there, but vacant. Asked around and no one had any answers, wouldn't even tell me who, or for what reason some trees were felled. The good news is a small flock 50+ are flying the same route whether they're using the same roost I cannot say?
