Robespierre, Danton and all of those crazy French revolution 'heroes' had thousands guillotined by La Machine that gleaned heads; then 'offed' their own midst their wild throes.

The French word "machine" is feminine by gender; so it really should be "La Machine". This limerick describes well that infamous executioner's gadget that was named after its inventor. The great French chemist Antoine Lavoisier did not deserve to be executed this way.

you make a good point with this image - heroes can be and usually are, killers too. i like the scene you paint without even trying too - of heads rolling away while the "heroes" heckle them and laugh.
