Grief: the Price of Love

Grief flows over me like ocean waves_ My heart is jagged pieces and my soul is broken; Sometimes, I have difficulty breathing in air; And stand weeping for hours at graves; My friends tell me I am quiet and soft spoken; True, I am in a fog of despair. I am on a long spiritual ramble; Sometimes- at nothing for moments I stare; And I smile though I am heartbroken; So today, I gather my strength to take a gamble: But, my grief stays in a tear. ____________________ April 23, 2021 Poetry/Curtal Sonnet/Grief: The Price of Love Copyright Protected, ID 04-1348-689-23 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, Grief in 12 lines or less sponsor, Line Gauthier, Judged 04/27/2021 Second Place

So true Constance! While love has many rewards, we do become vulnerable to the loss of it! So well done! Congratulations on your win. Blessings to you dear friend!

A moving write Constance, grief is hard to bear, slowly, though painfully one comes out of despair. Congratulations on a well deserved win... Belle

We find ourselves able to smile, to laugh, but alas the sadness permeates. Nice write.

I find we weep alone. Although when my son walked up with my mom’s urn, he saw her picture and broke down as did I. Shared grief. Congratulations on your win.

Kim, thanks for the comment on my poem, yes, I recall my last death was that of my grandmother and I smiled to guests through her funeral, even wrote and read the eulogy for her church service, it was only when alone later, I wept, love _Constance
