Greater Manchester Needs Clean Air

The roads are blocked from here to there,
drivers are gridlocked with despair,
traffic pollution’s everywhere,
ask the coroner, ask the mayor,
fellow commuters, could sometimes share,
use yellow buses, if fares are fair,
one thing’s for certain, please be aware,
Greater Manchester needs clean air.

Thus is a great message and an intriguing poem. I think I've read that Manchester has been a manufacturing area since Medieval times, and has had bad air for generations. Is there hope?

Towns & cities of Greater Manchester have some of the worst air quality in the UK. Once over pollution was through heavy industry powered by coal. Carbon emissions are still an issue, nowadays much of our pollution is caused by traffic. Local Coroners have raised concerns about the impact on life expectancy. I do believe there is hope, through expansion of cleaner, greener public transport & more widely, alternative sources of energy (eg wind/solar).
