Great Escape
Guilt and grief hold hostage Tessa’s mind,
Ruining all attempts at normal life.
Errors of her past caused others strife.
Although they’re forgiving and so kind,
Tessa can’t yet leave her guilt behind.
Echoes of good days at last break through.
She remembers when she used to pray,
Crying cleansing tears, finding her way,
And basking in forgiveness, feeling new.
Phoenix rising, Tessa is today.
Embers fade, outshone by sun’s bright rays.
