Gratitude

The older I get the more grateful I am
for the things I have in this life.
A job, a home, friends and family.
An existence free from strife.

I work hard and am paid little,
my home is modest , at best.
But I have all the necessities
and a comfortable place to rest.

I've so much more than many, which is why
I am so grateful for the life that I live.
And when I can, I pay it forward.
We all have something to give.

A smile, advice, or just an ear.
I'm there for my family and friends,
as they are for me, and always have been.
It's a circle that never ends.

To list everyone or everything I'm grateful for
would fill a very large tome.
But I suppose, of all things, I'm most grateful for
the safety and peace of my home.

This speaks in today's culture of violent protestations. My favorite line: "And when I can, I pay it forward." Well-said tribute to gratitude.

Francine, the "circle that never ends," our family and friends, gives our lives meaning. I'm "grateful" that you received a lifetime PM and are posting poetry again! (I was given one just recently and it made me so happy.) This is a lovely example for your contest! Hugs, Carolyn
