grass still growing in thunder

salt drops upon green ashes when we lullaby for lives of grandma’s, mothers
grass still growing in thunder
where bending we plant some mint
breaking free from cage of conditioning
a sea of blue grass appears

verses, emotions, lamentations, directions
buildings in flames, people are marching
the ALL arching — unwinding
blue-green grass grows, waving
fevers of life washing away

hopes fly in spaces, meaning unknown
manœuvres, thanksgiving, we observe
create, leap as sun appears smiling
we unfill ourselves, unfill ourselves
grass still growing in thunder, waving
I sit in a mist

how is this to be, chlorophyll filling lungs ?
news tramping a quiet garden
pause, unfill, catch a chirp
grass just grows, waving ~
breaking free from cage of conditioning
unwinding ______

Honorable Winner : Allpoetry: Rapid-Fire Free Verse : Theme ‘Grass’
April ‘26

[ Poet’s Note : Rapid-Fire Verse is a verse written on a particular theme, without left brain intervention, as much as possible. It is written within a few minutes, as right brain & nervous system interprets theme. This type of automatic writing allows a Poet to see how effectively the right brain has absorbed poetic technique. It moves one into whole brain functioning which is how the Ecstatics like Rumi & Kabir wrote. In my view, Rapid Verse is different to channelling, as it comes from inner direct experience, whereas channelling a poem often comes from another energy in another dimension. ]

Dear Ghairo, thank you very much for your message. I like reading your poems... Sorry to bother you with my suffering, but the constant pain from Paget's disease of the bones is reflected in my daily life... I don't know where to place my literary profile on Poetrysoup, so for now I'll just say that I'm a man. In Slovak, Marian is the masculine form of the name Maria. I write and translate oriental poetry from the English version and Japanese poetry from the original (passive knowledge is enough for me). And etymology, too. I am fascinated by many languages. What is your native language? I like Siki Jo-An songs in Xhosa with click sounds. I wish you good health and a lot of creative strength. I'm sorry that my English is not perfect. I hope that my poems are understandable despite this.

Nature is ever present in our lives, in its beauty and drama, as is evinced in your wonderful poem, Ghairo. Congratulations on your win. Best of wishes. :)

Dear Ghairo, I feel weather moving through a body, grief, revolt, renewal, all flashing like heat lightning. :) I like how the grass keeps returning, not as comfort but as a kind of stubbornness. The ‘unfill ourselves’ line, is rare to see a poem breathe out instead of in. Congrats on the win. Blessings, Daniel

The recurring phrase "grass still growing in thunder" serves as a central metaphor for life persisting through upheaval. This is reinforced by the contrast between "buildings in flames" and the "blue-green grass" that continues "waving". The poet explicitly mentions "breaking free from the cage of conditioning". The poem blends biological and psychological elements, asking "how is this to be, chlorophyll filling lungs?". This suggests a deep, symbiotic connection between the human spirit and the natural world.

We had to write it fast - so, to be honest - I’m still thinking about why I called the grass blue. Lol. I guess to write this way gives us clues as to what’s in the subconscious where colour has only a frequency that is not labelled. X.
