Grandpa's Study

The room is still, Quiet but for wind and rain Making music on the windows. Empty but for endless shelves Of leather-bound volumes - The first editions you loved so much. The desk is weathered, coated In a film of dust. The chair is old and worn, Tucked in just where you left it. I can almost hear it creak Under your weight, Hear you whistle in that absent way. I can almost see you there, Hunched over creased pages, Reading Keats or Blake. I can almost smell that familiar scent Of fresh soap and musty books, Of spices and cigar smoke.

I do believe I have seen all your lovely poetry, lady. Maybe I will just start at the end and read them all over again one by one. Yes, this one was good and I see you had gotten a win for a contest with it.Are you putting up all your poems at Soup or have you got some saved aside like i do, some that are not posted here yet? How many years have you been writing? Luv, Andrea

Good sensory recollections, Heather. "Fresh soap and musty books," makes a strong statement. Congrats on the selection. daver

I love this, Heather. I could really see it and even smell it. It makes me think of my grandpa's workshop where I first learned to carve. It smelled like woodchips and butterscotch...your poem brought back fond memories for me...thank you.

well, I wish you had more of your awesome poetry for me to see. I came back here to tell you thanks for all your comments to me. I too can neither sew nor plant. I despise both things but LOVE being in the kitchen! The pear tree does not produce pears. It's called decorative pear tree. Every season is very different look that it wears. White blooms in April, green in summer, going to gorgeous red/yellow in fall. It's a huge tree and wind tore off a big chunk of it last year. SIGH!!

something weird, I went to put you on my fave poet list, and it came up saying "poet previously placed here" but I reviewed my list and did not find you there. So I don't know what that list is talking about! I also noticed that two strange characters I had never faved had gotten onto my list somehow. Very weird stuff!

That is so strange! It must be some sort of glitch. I'm going to go check my fave poet list to make sure everything is in order! :)
