Grandpa
The color grey fills the walls
The shrieks of the insane fill the halls
All is dark and all is bleak
All but the redness upon your cheeks
Your body has bound you to a chair
Life for you is no longer fair
You only travel along by wheels
But no one ever asked you how it feels
But you know that this is not your place
For being here is a disgrace
And only by the might of God’s grace
Can put a smile upon your face
So every morning you wake up
Put more black coffee into your cup
And work to regain your normal life
One free from pain and strife
Pass day, week, month, and year
You continue this fight without a fear
From your goal you do not steer
Your family and God you hold dear
Your persistence is something I admire
Your drive and commitment continue to inspire
I hope you never lose that internal fire
To walk again; your burning desire
