Notes About The Poem

Grandma's Kitchen

How I remember lazy Saturdays
at grandma's house. It always was a treat -
and after carefree time at childhood play,
I would come in, tuckered, hungry, and beat -

and what was Grandma cooking all that time?
her patented, dependable, grand feast -
from pots and pans, savory steam would climb.
and just in time, us kids would take our seats.

for roast beef, mashed potatoes, and string beans,
salad, cranberry sauce, and buttered rolls.
Then my stomach would burst to smithereens,
from homemade pie and ice-cream served in bowls.

I recall each and every happy day,
and Grandma would have wanted it that way.

I am going back and forth on this one. From doing it on a relatives kitchen or playing in a field. I will do mine as a sonnet. Looks like you did it that way too. Your grandma's cooking reminds me of Sunday dinners my mom made us. We are that way only on Sunday or at holidays but we still had yummy things like pasta or chili on other days. Nicely done

Thanks, Andrea. It's nice that your mom was a good cook! Knowing what it takes to cook, I'm amazed at what my Grandmother did. I didn't even list everything, but I think I got most of it. Each time, the meal was almost the same, but it was great. She used to make bundt cake and put extra frosting so we could scoop it with our fingers - lol.
