Grandma's Doll

As fiery flames pierced the ebony sky I watched my home engulf in burning sty My family huddled, disbelief in each tear The Lord had saved us from this inferno of fear Then allowed me to save one material possession The last chance I had, this is my confession My grandma's doll I could not leave behind Sweet fruit of life, my home only the rind For the memories she holds I could not replace Fair, kindred thoughts clad in sheer lace Lost childhood secrets of yesteryear Eyes that do stare mottled and clear Aging beauty, statuesque grace Ruby lips on a smooth bisque face Ebony locks, I gripped time by and by As fiery flames pierced the ebony sky

Thanks for your kind comments, Rhonda. No, I don't mind if you use it. It came to me at 4am this morning. I awoke with the words, 'Sweet, Sweet, Breath of Heaven' and knew that if I didn't write it down, it would be gone by the morning, so I wrote the first verse and finished it at 6am this morning. It just comes so easy. God bless you, Maureen
