Grandma's Doll
As fiery flames pierced the ebony sky
I watched my home engulf in burning sty
My family huddled, disbelief in each tear
The Lord had saved us from this inferno of fear
Then allowed me to save one material possession
The last chance I had, this is my confession
My grandma's doll I could not leave behind
Sweet fruit of life, my home only the rind
For the memories she holds I could not replace
Fair, kindred thoughts clad in sheer lace
Lost childhood secrets of yesteryear
Eyes that do stare mottled and clear
Aging beauty, statuesque grace
Ruby lips on a smooth bisque face
Ebony locks, I gripped time by and by
As fiery flames pierced the ebony sky
