Grandma's Clothes Line
Today they are considered by some,
to be an unsightly eyesore.
But to us three kids growing up,
that clothesline, we adored.
Not only used for drying clothes,
but also to picnic beneath.
With an old sheet pinned across,
the lines for a shade so sweet.
In early Spring Mom and Gram would take,
the dryer lint and odd string or two.
Hang them upon the clothes lines,
for in their nests, the birds to use.
The stubborn Woodpecker that hung about,
his lesson, he never seemed to learn.
As upon those metal poles he'd beat.
A rapid pingpingping, we could discern.
It's sad to think that some folks,
will never know the joys to be found,
in the era now gone by, of
wires strung between two poles in the ground.
*one poem of many in a series about
life, growing up in our Grandparents home
and the smile those memories bring
