Grandfather

No doubt the way this poem should start He was an iron man with a golden heart I spent many days under a shade tree Listening to how life used to be Many days I spend fighting back the tears For I shouldn't have wasted all those years I swear if I could do it all over again I would have listened more closely to him I have no right as far I can see To tell of the man who took care of me Born in the days when men rode a horse Like a river his life followed a course A course that remained honest and true Showed that real men are the things that they do Raised his family and provided for his wife A solid example of what matters in life For his grandchildren he did more than his part That’s why he's an Icon in all of our hearts God blessed him far as I can see For he could play beautiful music with a leaf off a tree He held his family together his house was our home No matter what path or how far we roamed He was a farmer, Judge, barber and a poet If we needed an answer no doubt he would know it These days I use his memory I use it to see The type of man I was meant to be

I'm choked up. This is a beautiful dedication to your grandfather, and I know it came from your heart--cause its touching mine! Your talent is simply and utterly amazing--you are my inspiration and I pray that one day I will be as talented as you! God Bless You...Deb

My grandfather used to say to me ... If you was a little dummer or a little smater I would be alright... I never new what that meant untill i sat behind bars in county ... then I figured out how to open up the electric doors.. I was too smart but was never taught on how to aply my self.. wow this was beautiful Michael, very touching to the deepest part of my heart, your grandfather sounded like a great man. i never knew my real grandfater, both of them died when i was very young. my grandmother remarried in 1943, the year i was born, so he became the only grandfather i knew. this was a great piece you wrote and thanks for sharing.

Oh - brilliant tribute, Michael! He is a rarity, not many real men around these days - just boys in big-boy suits. Awesome, Love Kristin

What a beautiful tribute to a great man. Greatness comes in being a loving provider for him family....that out weighs fame or fortune...your poem reflects that! Thank you Michael, for the uplifting words that you use in all of your works, and also for the nice comments you make on my poetry. Your friend...Carrie
