There are two trees in my back yard I turn to when my days grow hard: I’ve named them Grace and Solitude, they serve to cleanse life’s dust accrued. Grace comforts me with peace unearned; with mercy, should a bridge be burned. Its tranquil shade my spirit lifts, reminding me of God’s good gifts. When under Solitude’s lush bough I rest refreshed (at least for now). On plush grass I luxuriate, to skylark’s tune I meditate. Content to bathe in nature’s views - then back to hear the daily news. I sigh as I hear of disease, desiring solace from those trees. From respite I too soon adjourn and to my daily tasks return. I crave to lave in quietude; my place of Grace and Solitude. Very thankful for your warm reading and thoughtful comment, dear Besma. We poets have a wonderful opportunity during global fears to encourage peace in solitude, and gratitude to God for his grace. Your thoughts are always appreciated!

Congratulations on your well-deserved win...this poem speaks a lot about how humans have two personalities inside them and how they keep growing despite the conflicts. :) Such a beautiful imagination of this concept with two trees in the backyard.

Wings, it's nice to know we share a love for trees; though I think you'd want to name your tree Maple and your dog Barky, just sayn! Haha, always love your sense of humor. Blessings ~ John

Grace and Solitude are beautiful words to choose for a poem, Trees can be majestic and strong medicine for our eyes in all manner of ways and shelter for us to sit under when we need solitude. Your trees should feel honoured bearing such suitable names for them. It reminds me of the song that Paul Robeson sang many years ago called Trees from a poem by Joyce Kilmer (who wrote it Feb 1913) which is a favourite of mine. Thank you, John

Thank you, Shirley, for gracing my page with your wonderful words of homage to trees! Your reference to the Kilmer poem has prompted me to find it in one of my poetry volumes and re-read it. I'm glad to know it is one of your favourites. Thank you for the lovely chat. Your friend, John
