Goodbye Ray

Ray Ventre even Loved by me, his smallest acquaintance. Want the ow to go away, want to go to last Thursday, To see his joy Again. Ray was my teacher On Thursdays, four to six He taught patterns and continuity Of the literary past, EN 281. A big name for the Enjoyment of Literature. He died Wednesday, The day before Thanksgiving Two thousand fourteen. Many are sad, I too, am Sad. Rate my professor Rated him a four point eight, Good, even great, but read what all students said for him to know his rank, to know our loss to know our sad. I was a late addition to Northern Michigan University I had planned another year at community college, but a job opened up for my wife in Marquette, so I suddenly needed, two weeks before they started: classes, guidance, a mentor, I needed someone to care about a situation they never heard of till now. Ray Ventre was the head of the English department, Ray cared, he set me up with classes including 281. A more enjoyable class would be hard to find. A more enjoyable teacher, impossible. To find. The joy he had The special kind That never fades, but grows Like cancer of the heart Spreading into all Who Love laugh And live for The happiest days. His heart was Too large to last. Goodbye Ray, and thank you for teaching me.

Losing people is sad, but we are happy with their memories. The little pieces they leave of themselves for us to see. We see these so clearly at times, and they bring back that loved one for that moment. Peace to you Cherl.

Sincere and heartfelt dedication. I can see he meant a lot to you. It's amazing how some people have that special gift to move others around them - in both small and large ways, they all add up.

Ray was certainly kind and he sure had a loving spirit, I wish he were still here, I just got an e-mail from his replacement for the 281 class, and she is just as devastated as everyone, Ray's persona was everywhere on campus, many will cherish and hold his memory. Thanks for reading.

Faye, I do so hope Ray never fades from my memory because he was like Jack E. here on this site...always so joyful! I aspire to someday teach like him, if I can do this, I will have succeeded.

OH MY, that poor guy taken from you all. I am curious. did he die of cancer? I saw a reference to cancer but the poem does not exactly say. (I"ve been collecting cancer poems, that is why I ask, and this is a very good one) A wonderful tribute.

No, he died of a sudden heart attack, the cancer reference was just to show how insidiously his joy spread. He had a rare, fierce passion for teaching, and the joy this brought him shined onto all of his students. His lectures were loud with laughter, and he laughed at our humorous contributions to discussions. He was a gem. Thanks for reading.

How lovely to write so nicely about a man who sounds like someone very special Be blessed that you had the time that you had with this man and remember him fondly and live up to his expectations of you. He is now guiding from above. Blessings and hugs Edith

The loss is indeed great, to the entire Marquette community, Ray was loved by all. He stood for helping others as much as he was able. There are no negative comments at all on his "rate my professor" page, and he had so many duties to perform as the department head, how he found time for so many student's needs is aweing. Thanks for reading.

Thanks David, Ray was indeed a mentor, he was fine and in his usual good humor on Thursday last. He always made us students laugh and our last class was no exception, we laughed lots and learned at the same time, he truly was one of the greatest teachers I have known. Thanks for reading.

Ray was a very sweet person, so helpful as a Professor, and precious as a friend. I still have three more classes of his that he will no longer teach, and the English department has lost its leader. Thanks for reading.
