Goodbye My Genghis
December 6, 2025. Saturday Morning 3:30 AM.
The little old boy passed away in his sleep.
The Amazing Genghis is no more on this earth.
He now is in Heaven reunited with his brother
Kublai yapping at angels and chewing holes
in the Pearly Gates.
He had decline rapidly, had a Veterinarian's appointment
for him Monday. Was feeding him soup broth with
a little spoon. He seemed confused, lost, disoriented.
But when I held him close to my chest all was good.
The other night I awoken to the sound of Genghis repeatedly
walking into the wall, Sassy was standing behind him
nervous, Again I picked him up and let him sleep holding
him with his little head on my chest. All was good.
Knew his vision had weaken, he would have a bad day
without eating and looking frail, like a ghost
just a whisper of himself. His face gaunt
getting to thin but the next day he was up and at em
Barking and yapping at whatever there was to bark at.
And eating well. But not this time, He was down for
three days so I made the Vet appointment.
I sleep in a recliner surrounded by dog beds.
Little Genghis was placed in his bed for the night,
He curled up gingerly and was asleep.
At eleven thirty was awaken by Genghis whimpering
cry. The little guy had his head drooping off the bed.
I gently picked him up and held him. His head wavered.
Got a big towel and sit down on the recliner. Placed the
towel on me and placed Genghis on the towel. Folded the bottom
of the towel up on his body with his little head sticking out
and he immediately feel into a deep sleep. All was good.
At 3:30 AM I awoke and was soaked in my lap. I put the little guy
on a foot stool and he was stiff . Knew he had passed.
Had to change and shower. Prayed over him and thank God
for the gift of this little guy for 18 years. He gave me such joy and
laughter, he was a funny playful little guy. Took a death picture of him
and cried, Cosmo sniffed him Sassy seemed afraid.
I closed his little eyes they opened, I closed them again they opened.
and I heard a slight faint murmur. He had not completely gone.
I got the old pink rectangle shape basket I used
for old Kublai, placed a towel on the bottom and
a little piddle pad for his head, Very gently I laid him
down in it. Got a towel to place on his body for warmth
and added a small blanket. And I talked to him,
gave him a tiny bit of water, did not hear a swallow.
His eyes were open but he was stiff. After a while
I got a mirror there was no breath and I felt no heartbeat.
He had passed.
Sassy and Cosmo and I had breakfast with Godshall
turkey bacon, the little guys favorite. Sassy and Cosmo
played together outside. I have to spoil my two big dogs
now as my two little dogs spoiled me. I miss them both,
had them for so long they were a part of me. Dogs
will give you unconditional love even if you don't deserve it.
His Monday appointment will now be for his burial,
they will send me his little paw print in the mail.
I will place it in one of his pictures.
Goodbye my Genghis, I love you my little guy.
Such an amazing and wonderful little dog.
God Bless.
