God's Big List

When I was little I believed God to be a chronicler of sorts. Documenting each and every sin in a big book, high up on the shelf. Come Judgement he would ask your name, and run his finger down the list. There would be a number next to Timothy Hicks. "You've reached a thousands sins, please, proceed to the left." And that would be the end of it. Point blank, your fate would be decided. A poor soul scared out of his wits, or a happy customer delighted. "Heck yes, I made it through!" Now that I'm older it seems ridiculously silly to think it all to be so cut and dry. I can do a lot of impressive things: play piano, make a swan out of paper, solve a Rubik's Cube in three minutes flat. But guarantee a life in paradise for the rest of eternity? Well I'll just have to think about that! The answer is locked deep within you. There ain't no human alive that can tell you what you should and shouldn't do. But rest assured you need not figure it out all on you're own. Indeed that is a fool's errand to believe this life is exactly how you planned it out to be. It took three key things just to have you among the living: Your father, your mother and the man upstairs. On the other side I hope to see you there. From A to Z you will surely see every person there ever was... ... on God's Big List.

Really liked this one! It's all in the attitude. He sees us trying truly doing our best to do what's right and He appreciates it. We can only continue to try and do better everyday. But we sin we make mistakes, He gets that. After all isn't He a loving and merciful God? This was a really good poem. :)

It's an endless struggle, I suppose... if we're not struggling I almost feel as if something's wrong... you know what I mean? Views keep changing as time goes on...

1 John 5: 12- He who has the Son has life! Pure and simple...the great redeeming truth. I'm with Richard L on this one! There is NOTHING we can do to make God love us any more or less than He does. If we truly repent...He remembers our sin no more. Please...Listen to the song by Ray Boltz...ONE DROP OF BLOOD. One drop of His blood tips the scale in your favor, my dear! Hugs!

Perhaps I'll give it a listen sometime (maybe when it's not an hour passed midnight and everyone's sleeping... lol). Yes I am a night owl! Thanks for stopping by...

This is in between a spiritual and ironic poem. But it is true, the existence of God as interested to the actions of human beings is quite ridiculous. We are responsible of our actions toward humanity in the limits of our existence and what we are able to leave after death is the only important thing, mainly love!

I agree with Andrea here Tim, I have thought of God in many different ways during my lifetime, things happen and ideas change. It's all part of the challenge that is life. Take care, Richard

Tim, I think we undergo many changes in our thinking as we age. At least I did, and I think you went in a step in a good direction. from what you told me of your childhood, you took a HUGE step forward out of darkness. This is a really enjoyable poem of reflection from you.

Only a thousand Tim? The reality is no one will be justified through their deeds. A life sacrifice is the gift, those who accept are justified not by their actions but his. Once accepted our sins are a s far away as the east is from the west. God will experience a miraculous Amnesia and you will be judged innocent. The only way to the father is through the Son, all other ways are dead ends packaged in pretty paper.

Well said, my friend. This was about my perspective as a little kid (I honestly DID think it was a number's game)... there's of course way more to it than that!

Yes... indeed. We all have such outlandish visions of God and Eternity which change as we grow and learn. Loved this, but then again I am a big fan of God :)
