Notes About The Poem

Goddess of Mars

Goddess of Mars and
all things desolate

I chart desperate needs
I measure hatred

Alone in a death filled
valley of despair

Hot winds lift and
spiral my hair

I am not there
I am the barest whisper

My talons scrape the blue
confines of heaven

while dark constellations
spin in fatal orbits

I am not there - nor is infinity

Desolation and darkness perfectly expressed, SuZ. I was really struck by your phrase "my talons scrape the blue." Congratulations on your winning placement.

Stark and terrifying. I loved the softness of "the barest whisper" juxtaposed with the sharpness of "my talons scrape."

A very different take, Suzy, and I do like the bleak spirit of it. Great write, well done, Viv x

"I am the barest whisper", you certainly weren't a whisper in this piece. Gripping end!
