Gnats

As little demons I view gnats.
They’re worse than spiders, snakes and rats!
One gnat arrives, and next I see
in droves them come; they will not flee!

A spider I’ll see once or twice
within a week. That’s not so nice
to see them, but they’re oft alone
and making cobwebs on their own.

They might too catch the pesky fly
which I see also by and by.
So though the spider creeps me out,
it’s still not flying all about!

I toss out fruit or just a crumb,
and summer’s gnats are sure to come!
Those tiny bugs annoy me so.
I wish outside they all would go.

The snake that slithers in the grass -
for years I have not seen one pass
in front of me; nor have I found
a sign of any rats around.

The spider, snake, the mouse or rat -
they frighten me, but it’s the gnat,
the pest the smallest of the small,
I find most bothersome of all!

These gnats seem to be making your life a misery, Andrea! Some of them do bite you know. They usually thrive in moist habitats, so best to see what is attracting them and eliminate the source first. Regards // paul

Your description is so intense that while reading when I had an itch on my hand I actually startled at the thought of a gnat! Enjoyed this one a lot Andrea :)

Years ago, I discovered an untouched Anasazi ruin and almost instantly discovered it was "protected" by droves of unmerciful gnats. So you get full marks for this one! Good luck in the contest! Aloha! Rico

I know how annoying those gnats can be. Sometimes while outdoors they will flock around my face like a crowd at a sporting event. No way to shoo them all away. The buzzing ones are the worst, they always seem to want to be by my ear! Good job and best wishes with Brian. Hugs ~ John

It's interesting how the gnats bother you more than the other pests. Gnats here bite and the itching lasts for days. Have no problem with spiders, but try to keep the other pests outside. A whimsical poem that should do well in the contest, Andrea. Best wishes for success! Hugs, Carolyn

Last summer I could not get them out of my kitchen. I discovered a trick to get them out. A big bowl of water I think with vinegar and sugar and a bit of dishsoap. The sugar to lure them. The dishsoap weigh them down and vinegar kills them. It worked but still I had to keep using that stuff all summer. I'd have 40 of them floating dead almost every day in that weird brew!
