Have to tell you, I’ve spent nearly an hr on this one! It first made me wonder why u weren’t referring to red rose of Sharon. Checked the symbolism. Carnations = love, passion, the petals = “spreading” so I took the def of fount as Providence not a water spring, also cause of your title & poem shape. Thus the frenzy, rapture, ? Of space & save. I don’t get ‘rings’ tho. Superb description of the event!

Thank you for your generosity, Sally, and please accept my apologies for devoting an hour to this poem. The major theme is about females who blush and wish they were dead to avoid blame. They, like midges, go too close to the fire of life and flare up. With gnat-like wings, roses, and gold rings. The first five lines are the dilemma's preamble, and the rest is a remedy to draw close to God and spare one's life from strife. I hope this helps.
