Givers and Takers

Givers and Takers For when I am a leaf upon the ground, As I often am. You will find me in a state of change. From the juicy reds and yellows To a blending shade of brown, to tan, to nothing. I will be soggy, soft, limp. Or a reactive crinkle under your feet Depending on the atmosphere. It is delicious, this decomposing. I will wonder whether others feel how important this is. This travel from beauty to usefulness. And who will appreciate what I’ve done? From spectacle to life-giver. In whose eye will the appreciation lay? And will it be from circumstance Or reflection?

Congratulations Lauren on your first place win - so much to ponder in this poem. I will never look at fallen leaves the same way again.

We are all in a state of flux, yet most desperately try to cling to their known past than face future prospects. Most fear death, which is simply "blossoming" into something (or many things) offering even greater perspectives. Thanks for the thoughts! Aloha! Rico
