Give the New Kid a Chance

Sarah was smart and sassy and wore a tired-looking bun. Extremely bright, she made the rest of our class look slow and dumb. I despised her right away. Would not invite her to play. Got to know her years later. And she was tremendously fun, so I was the dumb one.

I know how scary it can be to be the new kid - being a Navy brat, we were always moving!

We moved our children over 30 times so I know it is horrible living vicariously through their experiences.

A thought-provoking limerick; happens often, I'm afraid.

I always like to remind children that a stranger is sometimes a friend we do not know "yet", all strangers are not child-nappers or killers. Many sit next to you the first day of kindergarten and become friends.
