Notes About The Poem

Not so much meant to be political as supportive and show two sides, the ideal of freedom and the reality of slavery. Be gentle with your comments, not political but expressive. Thank you.

John 19:1-3 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they struck them in the face.

Kim, a deeply moving write, great use of powerful imagery (crown of thorns, rowing amidst the cotton, landing party of dreams). Your faith is well expressed here, the subtle merging of the iconic crown of Lady Liberty with Christ's crown of thorns. He came to bring the truth that the truth might set us free. If I had a vote for POTD, this would be it my friend, and going in my faves. Just stunning ~ John

A marvelous poem: Dynamic, informative, profound! I had the good fortune to climb the 176 steps inside Lady's body up to her crown back in 1971. Let me wish you Happy fourth of July. The Greek revolutionaries back in 1821 adapted your battle cry: Give me liberty or give me death! Blessings

Potent and eloquent; beautifully done in my humble Canuck opinion. We just celebrated our nation's birthday without fireworks, I am native to the capital, it has never been that quiet here... usually the biggest party of the year- but there is pride to be found in that. xomo

There are always fireworks at the church next door but not this year. That’s ok. It is the oddest Summer!
