Ghost Rider In Vegas

He caught a ride to somewhere going nowhere;
first hopped inside a slowed-down limousine.
The driver felt a chill and turned to stare
at someone seated in the back unseen.

A new car’s scent; the passenger smelled nothing.
The seat of luxury he could not feel.
The driver then off-key began to sing
to no one as he slowly tapped the wheel.

His passenger joined in and crooned unheard
that ancient tune “It was a very good year,”
his old blue eyes once clear becoming blurred,
and down his cheek there rolled a single tear.

Again compelled, the chauffeur turned his head -
then saw a small spot where the tear was shed.

Spooky! Fits Kelly's new contest Ghost Stories. I had already read this one but I wanted another read. It is as good as I remembered.

There was a duck who walked into a store and said, “got any candy?” The storekeeper said, “no, we don’t.” The next day, the duck went into the same store and asked the same thing and got the same anwer. The duck kept going back every day for a week and asked the same thing and kept getting the same answer until the store keeper got so angry he said, “if you come in here and ask that again, I will hit you on the head with a hammer!” The next day, the duck walks into the store and asks, “got a hammer?” The store keeper says, “no.” Then the duck asks, “got any candy?”

Andrea, Your first line is absolute perfection and sets the tone for the rest of this wonderful creation. I loved the intrigue and the magic moment of recall to a divine singer who is probably still riding around in that decadent limousine, unseen. Congratulations on your win!

So different was your take on the contest, ..memories of Sinatra that remain in the place that knew him the best...and have never been the same since he left. Well done!
