Gently Now, Gently

I found you crying in a doorway, all alone, 
whimpering while singing your doll a song.
You're so young, child, to be on your own, 
and yet, I can tell, you're brave and strong.

I whispered softly to her, You're safe with me.
I will not leave your side through the night,
and from this day on your life will be carefree.
Little one, I promise, everything will be alright.

Chorus:
   Gently now, gently, I'll hold you in my arms   
   Close your weary eyes, my sweet little dove.
   Gently now, gently, you'll be safe from harms.
   What you need more than anything is love.

By morning, your sorrow will have disappeared
and everything will become so much brighter. 
I promise there is nothing more to be feared.
No hardships to endure, your burdens, lighter.

I will be at your side, protecting you, always.
You can trust me for I'll think of you as mine,
and your life will be filled with beautiful days.
You'll be a glowing star in my sky, my sunshine.
