Gender Blender

Gender Blender
When my son was four and
Learning to differentiate between genders,
I told him one day that he was
The prince and not the princess.
He took it right and said,
Like dad is the king and you are the queen.
And hence the game started,
Every day we played,
The game called ‘Gender Blender’.

I often asked him, when you grow up,
What would you be –
A father or a mother,
A husband or a wife,
A sir or a madam?
He always answered,
“I won’t become an actress
 But an actor instead.”

Suddenly one day he asked ,”Mom,
Am I a scooter or a car?”
I thought a little and said,
“Scooter my dear and you are not a car.”
That day our favorite game turned into ‘Gender Blunder’.
He asked,”Am I a sofa or a chair?
Am I the head or a strand of hair? ”
Tell me mumma,
“Am I a stool or a table?
Am I a T.V. or its cable?”
Puzzled, as I stared in abyss ,
He fired another one -
“Am I a peanut or an almond?”
I said,” Beta. you are nothing but my sweet little diamond.”

From a gender blender to a gender blunder. A child's understanding of the world and it's wonder. An interesting take on the theme Archana. Peace. :)

Kids are full of questions so you better be careful what you say around them. By the way, are diamonds male or female in Hindi? I can guess

Smiles for you, Mr. Pen. Thanks for your kind advice and comment. Diamond is called ' HEERA' IN Hindi and that's male. Actually last alphabet tells, A- MALE and I OR EE- FEMALE (mostly) as per grammer.

Thank you for sharing this, The working of a child's mine I always find fascinating. One day I asked my grand daughter, which of her toy dinosaurs were boys and which were girls. The first one, "This ones a boy" she said. The next one "Is a girl" she replied, as she set it down gently down on the bed beside the first.

The third one, while holding up in her hand and appearing nonchalant she explained " Now this one is a boy, who thinks he's a girl" and as she slowly tosses it to the other side of the bed, She exclaimed "That's His problem" I Had No idea where that came from, a 4 yr old go figure !
