G'Day Part 1 a Poem For Don

I was situated in full recline
Just waiting for something to do
When I saw Sam, a mate of mine,
Dragging a kangaroo.

The bouncer strained against the rope
That Sam held tightly in his hand,
The animal hadn’t given up hope,
And freedom was his plan.

“What ya got there?” I yelled to my mate,
As the roo fought to get away.
Sam said, “Come help me build a crate
And we’ll have us some fun today.”

So I helped him construct a box
To fit a bouncing kangaroo.
And unless he was going to fill it with rocks,
It was big enough for two.

“What’s on your mind?” I asked my friend
As we screwed the lid down tight.
“Now,” said Sam, “we have a message to send
Let's go before the black of night.”

Then we loaded the crate into my truck,
And drove for the nearest town,
Sam said, “All we need is a little luck,
And the use of an evening gown.”

“What’s that?” I asked the bloke,
As a light gleamed in his eye.
Whatever it was, he’s going for broke,
And he was up for do or die.

It seemed that one of the towny boys,
Had taken up with Sue, Sam’s only sister.
And he had availed himself of her joys
Though he claimed that he’d only kissed her.

Sam wanted to stuff him in the crate,
And make him wear a frilly dress.
Make it look like the kangaroo was his date,
Then send photogs to the press.
