Back when our children were growing up
times were hard financially..I always fixed
a icebox fruitcake around Christmas..At the
grocery store there were containers with
mixed diced dried candied fruit which looked
like a great deal for two reasons already
chopped and less expensive so I thought that
I would give that a go..It had orange peel and
lemon peel and something else which I never
figured out what it was..My daughter loved
that cake like her father but she took one bite
and she spit it out..She did not like the citrus
in it..She would sit there and get all the Graham
cracker mix off and spit the fruit out on her plate.
Yuck!!
Funny the way it was then
Feisty teen who loved sweets
Fine icebox fruitcake served
Fruit quite different mixed
From citrus~lemons, limes
Flipped fruit flew from teen's lips
Fantasy taste was gone
