Fulcrum of a rose Poetry Contest
Sponsored by Unseeking seeker
06/21/25

Stamens and pistils
delicately poised
Shamans and pistols
making too much noise
Soft buzz preferred,
a silencer’s desired
Pollinator’s sense
the triggers just fired

Nectar brings balance
agape open wide
Willing the seeker
to do laps inside
Comes with a snag
also stitch in the side
Fulcrum of a rose
the thorn realised

My soul’s not a flower
just gives and takes
Wants what it craves
accepts all, even fakes
Opens too early,
closes far too late
Can’t tell if I’m full,
yet knows when I’m sate

Possesses a thorn,
and stabs by design
Fulcrum of my soul’s
human not divine
Protects at all costs
only thing that’s mine
Not pain or loss,
just my life to define

I like how youv used details of flowers, like pistils and stamens, the scientific details youv used to convey something so very deep and profound! I really loved especially the lines "My soul’s not a flower just gives and takes Wants what it craves accepts all, even fakes " deep and soul hitting ! " only thing that’s mine Not pain or loss, just my life to define " think many can resonate with that too! A very soulfully moving and heartfelt take on the prompt! Pleasure reading! Sending you light always . A fave ofcourse

Heya Ink, thanks so much for such a wonderful comment, I was just being truthful to myself, as indeed I try to be in all my poems, it’s pretty hard to define a soul without saying it defines me as a human being, and all the good and bad (points) that involves, just like the rose and thorn, both are part and parcel of the whole, I’m absolutely delighted with your fav considering you deservedly won the contest, mine just didn’t seem to resonate with the sponsor, and that’s ok, I enjoyed writing this piece nonetheless, thanks for the light too! Cheers David

We've held, touched, smelled, and used the precious flower over and over again as our muse, thorns surround her as they protect her from harm making it difficult to get close to her. "Fulcrum of my soul’s human not divine Protects at all costs only thing that’s mine Not pain or loss, just my life to define" Beautifully said. You've certainly conveyed the fulcrum of a rose, David Bol, Cheers!

Heya Anaya, metaphysical roses using human senses and consciousness as the fulcrum, Seekers contests are always difficult for me to express! Still I’m delighted how this one turned out, was a delight to write, thanks so much for your wonderful comment, cheers David

"Fulcrum of a rose the thorn realized." The prick of a rose's thorns can't always be escaped if our pivot point is not quick enough to escape the pain. Some may believe the stabbing wound is little price to pay for the beauty of being inside her velvety soft petals. We can't always protect ourselves from pain from the want of such beauty. There's as much intricacy in doing so as you've written in these intricate lines, David.

Heya Lin great to see you back if only for a little while; life is very intricate and finely poised, pain will and does come alongside the nice stuff, but in the end we really do have our own lives to define, that’s where the real fulcrum extends from, thanks so much for reading and stopping by with wise comment, cheers David
