Fudge Fingers

I listen to my favorite song
An uplifting beat and message so strong
Trying to play along on piano and
Blurb! A wrong note like a nonsensical word

My fingers are like fudge
Thin in the art thick in the part
Where you need to be nimble
Piano yells at me as if playing is simple

So I put on my favorite song
By the Sounds Of Blackness
It’s “Optimistic” and I feel it
A soulful voice melts my challenges
Tells me I can win and to not give up

Before long a Miracle full blown
Occurs when I get two chords right
And then follow the melody my delight
My heart is a yellow kite
I suck less today than last time
I tried to play piano!

The thing we all must remember, even though we may have flaws, it is still better than never trying at all. Have a wonderful day, my friend.

They say it takes practice, practice, and more practice. Some people can get it and make wonderful players. Thanks for sharing this one with us and I hope during this new year that you will practice every day both music and poetry. Sara K

Your delightful description of learning to play your beloved piano is so poetically reflective of the process. I love your last two lines. I was a music major in college with piano, and voice, being my major instruments. Oh, how I relate to your words! There is such a sense of elation when you get "two chords" right! Thank you for this thoughtful piece of delight! Blessings! Happy New Year!

Thanks for your sympathies it was a long time ago dad was killed. Wow I admire you for going to college as a music major! I dropped out of the Music Business Institute due to financial hardship as well as I was having a hard time with the technical aspects of the recording studio studies. It was a dream while I was there. Ah so you get it. What a cool thing you did to follow your musical aspirations in college! Thanks for sharing and so happy you liked this poem. Happy and Healthy New Year blessings to you Sam!

Karen, I, too, am so sorry about your father. Music does have an amazing ability to heal. I pray that you continue to heal from this devastating loss. Prayers and blessings!

I love the piano, when i was little i used to play the melodica for the band and as i grew older i learned piano and also guitar but i dont really play guitar anymore. Ah this has a lyrical flow to your lines, the way you’ve expressed in such a mellifluous manner in such an artistic manner is beyond impressive. And also got me thinking, what is your favorite song? I especially love the line” My heart is a yellow kite I s*** less today than last time“ whoa! You have a way with words. Loved this

Thank you dear Ink and I know what you mean about that song being a reminder. But for me it was confirmation that dad would want me to be optimistic like the song is! You are so sweet and your heart so tender! Thanks for the wishes and Grandpa surely is proud of the woman you are! May your new year be blessed with happiness and good health!

Wow im so sorry about your father, you are such a strong soul. Really. Sigh. I will check this song out and music does have a strong effect on us. I remember this song by coldplay i was playing it when i received the news of my grandpas passing away. And ever since then i cant listen to that song, altho it was one of my faves. Sigh. Sending you light always. Kind and strong soul i hope and pray 2024 will be an easy one for you and your son.

Wow I bet you played with as much talent and passion as you show in your poetry! Did you compose as well? And my favorite song is the exact title “Optimistic” that’s the song title and the contemporary gospel group’s name is the Sound of Blackness. If I knew how to attach I would’ve. lol The day and moment I found out my father had been murdered the song Optimistic suddenly came on the car radio my mom was driving! It softened the blow as the song is very uplifting and has a peppy percussion beat.
