Friends For Rent

Friends For Rent In nineteen fifty-nine, back in grade three I was friendless, just too uncool So, I came up with a plan to turn me Into the most popular kid in school Monday morning my mom gave me a quarter To buy milk at school for five days But I needed to disobey her order Though I’d learned that crime never pays I bought ten licorice Whips and five Pixie Stix Before school at Mike’s Candy Store Then I added ten Jawbreakers just for kicks As I had a whole dime left for more Before class on the playground, I gave my treasure away To every kid in my grade, I could find Even Jim the bully had good stuff to say Finally, I had friends true and kind With friends I was finally pleased and contented But they hadn’t been bought, only briefly rented Written 3/2/22

A classic, Robert! Great life lesson, so fetchingly penned! As the Liverpuddlians sang, 'Money can't buy you love.' ~ Candy Man

You need to be clever to avoid disaster, even if you have to use sweets as bait. Good one Robert!...ab
