French Language

I love you, French language,
I love Descartes and Montaigne,
The mash of chestnuts,
You despise their nonsense,
I love you, French language,

I don’t give a damn about it, the coquillard,
writing this, is great art,
But what about strawberry reds?

You are the language of the fox,
Of the great dukes and of Ronsard,
From Descartes and Montaigne,
The song of the musaraigne
I love you, French language.

NB for rhymes, give you the french

Je t’aime, langue française,
J’aime Descartes et Montaigne,
La purée de châtaignes,
Tu méprises leurs fadaises ,
Je t’aime, langue française,

Je m’en tamponne, le coquillard,
écrire cela, est du grand art,
Mais que dire des rouges fraises ?

Tu es la langue du renard,
Des grands ducs et de Ronsard,
De Descartes et de Montaigne,
La chanson de la musaraigne
Je t’aime, langue française.

Very nice to meet your poetry and you! I too love the language of ancestors on my dad's side of the family, sadly though French was his first language, he did not pass it on to us children. My daughter is learning it though, she loves the phrase 'Je t'aime' as do I. J'aime ton poeme!

Dearest Yann, I'm learning French at the moment. It's the most beautiful language, in my eyes. Votre poème est magnifique! Merci pour votre poème :)

Pity I studied French for four years, but had the worst teacher. So eventually I lost it. Now I'm too old to study.

Interesting lines penned. I had to look up some words to find out exactly they meant since I had not heard of them before. The French had some interesting persons over the years to appear on the scene. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K

I’d love to hear you read this in French, Yann! It’s lovely in English, but I’m sure it would be magnifique in the original…

French sounds beautiful and soulful, unlike the German language I grew up with. Never written a German poem...hmmm, maybe I should give it a try.

Very fantastic poem. I speak French much better than English. I need to start composing some French poetry, but I'm not sure where to post it, like PoetrySoup. French is the most beautiful of the Romantic languages.

My sister loves the French language too. She taught it in Italy as an Associate Professor for a decade --- 'til they found out she was Jewish. Italy proceeded to systematically blacklist her around the world, even back in the USA! She never taught French again. How 'bout that?!

Very nice. I find French very difficult to pronounce yet it is probably the most beautiful of the romance languages.
