Free Speech

They say we have free speech:

But tell how me free is it?
The minute I express myself
and it's something you don't
agree with or believe in my
speech is no longer free.

Don't get me wrong I don't
believe in being disrespectful
or rude.

When a person uses their free
speech as a weapon to tear
another down, it's not right.

However we should be given
a platform, to speak freely as
we want to without a person
judging the way we spoke.

Let's face it we must learn to
agree to disagree. If I stand
my ground for something I
believe in, I shouldn't be in
jeopardy of losing my job.

If I can't express myself
freely, I have been robbed
of my “free” speech.

If one is able to dictate how
and what I speak, I never had
free speech in the first place.

It seems that these days we have stood the 'Four Freedoms' on their heads: We have freedom FROM religion; in many venues we are NOT free to speak; the press has FREEDOM to write falsehoods, to NOT verify information; and speakers we disagree with cannot gather ASSEMBLIES. So much for our heretofore celebrated 'four freedoms.' Thank you for writing this thought-provoking piece, Alexis. Best wishes, Gershon

Free speech and Free Will are both an illusion. A thoughtful work. I enjoyed the read very much.

Amen! There is, or used to be, in Hyde Park, in London, an open mic for free speech use. You are right, we must all work together in our ordinary lives to keep Free Speech free! Thank You for your Love of Freedom!

Yes, people in their jobs often suppress horrible feelings about things going on in the workplace just to hang onto their jobs. it's just not right! Good one.

Free speech is dead, I am sorry to say, Alexis. I am glad you started this. Stand back and hold on!
