Freddie Vassalo

Controversial
Dead
Alive
Missing
Back again
Gone
Outspoken
Talented
Did I mention dead
Resurrected
Defiant
Ashamed
Humble
Proud
Searching
Angry
Beautiful
Thought provoking
Manic
Depressed
Hurt
Human
Unreliable friend
Still a friend
I can't help but like the guy
He does have a tender side
Yes he pushes too far
Brilliant and flawed mind
Honest
Not particularly kind
Tortured
Tell it like it is
Even when it isn't
But he believes it is
Still I am attracted to his passion
Sadly all his poems are gone
Maybe they'll be back again
I guess what I'm saying
Is that I miss
My friend
Freddie!

Freddie Vassalo is no stranger to controversy. He has stirred the soup many times.
Never boring sometimes mean, other times kind always creative. I do not see eye
to eye with him on many subjects yet I am inexplicably drawn to his personality.
Yes I do miss my friend Freddie, I expect him back any day now.

Wow, you hit the nail on the head, so to speak (or write), Richard! Freddie is definitely a guy with many layers. You are like me and try to see the good in people, but I agree with Jan...he hurt a lot of his friends here. I can understand why many poets won't comment on his pages...hugs to you, Rhonda (I'm sure he'll be back)

For good or bad Freddie let a lot of people down, that includes me. Yes, he wrote very good poetry but destroyed much of his writing with his actions in my opinion , for a poet is besides a writer a human being that we also judge on more than just writing talent. A poet is to inspire not to harm, his actions harmed many fellow poets here. He had not that right to hurt others.. A7 on this fine write Richard..

Oops sorry Robert the below note was part of a conversation with my friend Eileen.

I think men and women argue differently, for us it is about the moment, for women I feel it takes on meaning beyond the topic of disagreement. For me this would never be something that would come between friendship.

Yes I agree and now Freddie is paying the price for his behavior. My hope is that it will soften his heart. Sometimes having a person or two still care can provide a way back. My friendship in no way condones Freddie's behavior in fact when I have witnessed what I regarded as inappropriate I have spoken up. Yet if I am to be a friend it means I don't place conditions on friendship.

you were very considerate to write about Freddie. I admire you for this, Richard. He really did stir the soup pot. GREAT writing about him, sir Richard!

Thanks Andrea, my writing about Freddie will likely not endear me to many people here. I have one friend who feels my friendship with Freddie is a disloyalty to them when it is far from the case. We have a world full of people who hold anger in their hearts and no healing is able to find them. We are all in need of forgiveness.

You chose a very interesting poet to write about, Richard. I'm sad that Freddie is no longer around. Good luck in the contest.

There is something about him that is, well it is like watching a car accident, you know you should walk away, but there is a certain element that just draws you closer, and you want to assist but your not a paramedic, but you can't just walk away because there is blood. I don't know his personal story but his writing was real and raw and every interaction I have had with him had been supportive and kind.

I believe he is quite fond of you Casarah. He appreciates talent and honest from the heart writing. You possess both in spades!

I am confused! Is he dead or alive? If dead certainly we shouldn't speak evil of him for is God's hands and God knows the whole truth and will judge him accordingly! If he is alive let him come forward and defend himself or at least come forward just to declare his presence. Richard, my friend your poem a very powerful one I loved its structure and flow!

Shame on him to make so many people sad! He must apologize on his knees for this atrocious betrayal of our friendship. I for one consider him DEAD as a doornail! May God forgive him and may he seek professional help!

He is very much alive. He has been back but is absent once again. Freddie hurt a lot of people with his fictitious death so I understand why so many people are angry. Each of us must deal with the consequences of our actions. Still I feel he is not beyond redemption. Thanks for your kind visit Demetrios.

The subject is intriguing. Made more so by the reactions and comments of people who joined the thread. However, I like the fact that a person can disagree with another one yet maintain respect, even a liking, for the other person, that he is compelled to write about the controversial one. 7 salutes to your write, and to your generous heart, dear sir...May the coming days reward you for your firm hope in the innate goodness of man...Warm smiles from the land of thousand isles...Kim :)

I will also add this comment, there are many great poets here, Richard is one of them, however I have the utmost respect for Richard as a human being, he is both kind and wise, and has been an inspiration to me, in both poetry and life. For this, I say thank you Richard! ( and ricky :) )

Thanks Arthur, for me I have spoken against Freddie on different occasions still for me I feel what opportunity does a man have for redemption if he is despised? I know you to be a fair person and somehow I think if you had some of the conversations I have had with Freddie you might feel differently.

He certainly has a way with words, however, beating ones wife, and harassing ladies here who only tried to be kind, this is where I draw the line. Before I knew that, he was controversial, once I learned that, I would be first in line to spit on his grave, if only he would stay in the damn thing!
Lamoureux Avatar
February 1, 2015 at 6:25 PM
I am not aware of him beating his wife and if he has I would be one who would speak up. I respect your opinion Arthur and based on what it sounds like people have told you I understand how you feel.

There are issues for sure, but creativity often wears a cloak and your poem celebrates the good the bad, the joy and sad sides of him. Very well done Richard. I commend you for your courage to speak the truth! I think this poem will be on the winner's list my friend.

I ceased all contact with Freddie after he 'died' Richard. I found it unbearable to cope with as my dad really is dying. I did read his poems but not comment on them - I noticed his poems were gone after I read the tribute poem for the contest - am sure he will resurrect himself - maybe he is still here under another name:-) Hugs Jan xx

For all those concerned please email me for my schedule. I have decided to let you all know the days I am alive, and the days I am dead, and the days I am away on vacation. I will keep the schedule revised as best as possible, so that you may know my current status, today by the way, I am alive, barely, but alive!
