Fred the Lucky One

Mrs. Crane and Mrs. Finch,
meet at the corner store,
where they like to gossip,
before their shopping chore,
and on this occasion,
Mrs. Finch to Mrs. Crane,
mused about her neighbour,
who’s driving her insane.
‘Dulcie has a bad mouth,
about her husband Jack.
She always puts him down,
always behind his back.
I think she is so rude,
just take a look at me,
my Fred is fat and lazy,
and he might be cheap.
He snores for half the night,
and so I cannot sleep,
and when he’s on the grog,
he smells like he is dead,
but you won’t hear me say,
a bad word about Fred.’

Yes, just too funny. It's such a cute poem you wrote. Makes me wonder what they are saying about us behind our backs!

Hello Duke … this is a good example of what your comment says. It's so common but most of us don't realize it - thanks Duke - Lindsay

So funny, and made me think of a time a long time ago, when I was a kid. A neighbor saw a guy across the street and said, "I don't like him, he's always talking about people!" My brother and I started laughing as he looked on puzzled!........Thanks for the laugh.....again!.......pat

G'day Pat … pleased you enjoyed this little ditty PAT. There is so much truth in it about people in general, and you picked up on it when just a kid - thanks PAT - Lindsay

I used to write limericks making fun of an imaginary man and coincidentally I used the name Fred. Maybe because it's good to rhyme with deadhead!

Hi Andrea … single syllable names are easier to fit, and all the better if they have many rhyming partners. I think everyone knows a Fred - catch you soon Andrea - Lindsay
