Fragrant Love

My love, as ointment poured out is your name.
as odors, sweet, and spices, rich and rare,
does its fair sound rejoice the waves of air.
The fragrance filled the house when Mary came
to kneel at Jesus' feet, her love aflame,
the alabaster box spilled out, her hair,
the towel with which she wiped away His care;
so now this room is scented by your name.
The Balm of Gilead alone excels
the mollifying virtue your name gives;
there is no thing about you which repels,
for what you are is all that to me lives;
and, He and you, intertwined, my gospel
are, which two my soul's salvation give.
