Fortress

“Fortress”

‘Love
is stronger
than death

Belief
dwells in
the refuge

and the fortress …’
she said.

Back then,
true romance was lost
in the subterranean
frequency

poets, musicians, artists
were crucified publicly
for free thoughts on how
it all really was … meant to be

Life and
freedom

we were all lost
looking for the
reality in Life
and its true meaning

Books and lives burned
stories irretrievable
destroyed by all the me too’s
and you too’s,

who gallantly
turned,

averting their eyes
ignoring all the injustice,
charity their home first, this
no startling surprise

as the whole world turned
on its rotisserie, over well-done
shreds of self roasted soul
were coming greasily undone

still -
that one word
called us
all back in

into our dampening
what-if-dreams-were-not-dead
songs-to-be-sung,
stories-still-to-be-written, not hung

it continually
whispered its presence,
its promises incessant
called us all back in

some of us listened,
others of us considered
it all some kind of
freak-filled nonsense

None of us
truly understood it all
back then, grasped the reason
for our complex fall

until the last of the fires
burned out and
the call was still calling
all the burning brides in

its true revelation
its meaningful meaning
in the underrated time
of the great reckoning

https://youtu.be/XgUBV9p9jfk The act of Padukone plays Padmini, the legendary queen who committed “Jauhar”, the medieval Rajput practice in which female royals walked into funeral fires to embrace death over the dishonor of being taken captive. https://thewire.in/books/padmaavat-a In the climax, breathtakingly shot of course – hundreds of women bedecked in red like Goddess Durga as bride rushed into the Jauhar fire while a raving. This movie a lot of controversy behind it. I did see Kanye's "Jesus is king", as well. Chorus much talent.

Beautifully filmed, stunning sets/costumes/colour. I'm more for women walking out of the fire. Men aren't worth self-immolating over. No man is. In reality, when one considers the religious wars over the years, and with heightened awareness of the most recent events with women and children being raped, tortured (murdered), due to their cultural and/or religious beliefs, say for eg ISIS extremist Islam, I would then understand why a women, backed into a corner, would take her own life and that of her own children, as a means of empowerment and control over that of a murderous raving religious patriarchal sect/army. However, most mothers, and non-mothers, would put themselves first in the line of fire, before their children with the intent to set their children free for escape/survival.

I am more for walking out of the fire, rather than into the fire and for true survival. Now some may say, well what about Jesus (or whoever one believes in), would one walk into the fire for a religious deity? We all have our own choices to make on that concept. And the proof of that type of courage, can only be faced with conviction of faith/belief. While my own father is no longer living, if that scenario had presented, to protect my father - then perhaps, a man worth saving, but his advice to me and my younger sisters, would be to save ourselves and our children before any man. Visions of Pei Mei and Kill Bill. While metaphorically speaking I have faced hell on many occasions, I do not sympathise with the Devil. I shall watch the movie. ...more like Dante's first circle of Hell. It's amazing what strange beings one comes across in caves and the messages they impart. I was reading about, what people believe to be the oldest cave paintings in the world, the Altamira Cave paintings, in Spain, around 23000 years old. One could consider this art, the birth of creative imagination, storytelling. We have always been inveterate story tellers. Humans have always told their truths through parable, fable, poems, music, art, it is our way of making sense of the world. All art is autobiographical, because it comes from a secret place in our souls where imagination and truth co-exist. Strange the stories that emerge from those caves. Very strange indeed. Thank you, I must revisit Plato's cave allegory...one finds the ancient scholars, and storytellers, including prophets ... the most profound of all.
