Forgiveness

How can I find it within myself
To forgive you of such a crime
Of abuse, neglect and abandonment
For such a long period of time

How can I search my soul
For the forgiveness you think you deserve
When you went over the limit
Nothing’s left in the reserve

How can I look beyond the hate
When I’ve seen what you’re about
You’ve destroyed any feelings of hope and change
Now all that’s left is doubt

Why should I trust my heart
When I know it’s all a lie
You left me alone in misery
And never told me why

Forgiveness is a privilege
Something you must earn
But it seems to me you’ll never get it
I guess you’ll never learn

How do I forgive when I can’t forget
These scars within my mind
How can I forgive you for all you’ve done
And leave it all behind
