For This Day

For this day

Today, I shall have no fears
the future is behind me; I will let it go
The rest is mundane, dusting the room
cleaning the windows

Today, I will walk to the shop
and not seek sanctuary in my car
join the throng; not wait till the shop is empty
of customers.

Today, I shall be brave and fear no one
not the past nor the future
I shall sit in the sun and enjoy its warmth
look at white clouds lazily drifting passed

Today, I swear, to be of good humour
and refuse to be as old as I’m
be courageous and let the breeze caress my arms
I shall be happy and free.
