For Thinking People

“Let not your heart be troubled” is fine advice For celery, artichokes, and very elusive mice, But in today’s troubled world it will not suffice For thinking people! “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!” is a mantra superb When all’s right with the world, it’s a good blurb, But the situation right now causes much perturb For thinking people!

Hello Milton ... it is certainly a bonus if we can turn off, but the way humanity is progressing it is hard not to think about the future - thanks again Milton - Lindsay

Precisely, Lindsay. However, we must be careful not to let things we cannot do anything about have too great an impact on our lives. No matter what is going on in the international scene, it is incumbent upon us to continue to mold our futures in a positive way, the best way we can.

I still think not worrying is better for me in the long run. No use killing myself from the inside over things I have no control over. Being human, I still have concerns with the situation humanity is facing and this point in our existence. Thanks for sharing your thoughts through poetry, Milt. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

I so appreciate your thoughtful and insightful comment on my poem, Bill. Yes, I do, as well. I think we can carefully separate genuine concern and worry.

talking about the perfect poem... meter, rhyme, actuality. milton has been showing us through his work a commendable performance that day by day adds more knowledge and poetry to a world that urgently needs thinking people.

I understand. I don't worry about anything much, but this fool is causing me a bit of anxiety. Still there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, so why worry????

That first piece of advice is to have peace in the middle of trouble. Still, I love your poem. Open our eyes. Don’t walk around in lala land. Another saying was, “Have a nice day,” with a big smiley face. (George Carlin made fun of that one :)

Shades of Emily Dickinson! -- 'Faith is a fine invention // For Gentlemen Who See // But microscopes are prudent // in an emergency. Kudos, Milt! ~ E.D's biggest fan

I suppose I should close down shop so that all of my poems can be found after I'm dead and gone...and then I'll be famous! Bosh! I like Dickinson, too. My Deb once took a college course on Emily Dickinson, and some of her interpretations from that class were, shall I say, novel.

Thank you so much, Sotto Poet. This was sort of experimental and comes from my deep confusion and despair over the world's current situation.

I think Putin has bitten off more than he can chew and is becoming as unsure of the outcome as the rest of us. It's like a huge boil that keeps on festering until it breaks. How can anyone's heart not be troubled? When we live in such an uncertain world.

Thank you, Gordon. That's a really affirmative thing to say, and I appreciate it.
