Notes About The Poem

Hubbie refuses to read my poetry (except for a few nice tributes I wrote him over the years), but I forced him to listen to this  teasing one. He almost smiled on one part, told me I was mean, and right after I read it, said, "Now turn the news back on."

For the Old Man

(From the Old Lady)

Have I ever told you that . . .
you needn’t worry about being bald.
You’re kind of cute in your funny hat!

Have I ever told you that . . .
I don’t mind taking care of the dog you just had to have.
But I wish you’d let me get a cat!

Have I ever told you that . . .
I’m glad you’ve never sung to me.
Your singing voice is horribly flat!

Have I ever told you that . . .
I am very proud of you for losing those twenty pounds.
You were never really all that fat!

Have I ever told you that . . .
you do a lot more good than bad.
Give yourself on the back a little pat!

After 44 years of wedded bliss (more or less), we became officially old
when we just got on Medicare this year!
