Hubbie refuses to read my poetry (except for a few nice tributes I wrote him over the years), but I forced him to listen to this  teasing one. He almost smiled on one part, told me I was mean, and right after I read it, said, "Now turn the news back on."

(From the Old Lady) Have I ever told you that . . . you needn’t worry about being bald. You’re kind of cute in your funny hat! Have I ever told you that . . . I don’t mind taking care of the dog you just had to have. But I wish you’d let me get a cat! Have I ever told you that . . . I’m glad you’ve never sung to me. Your singing voice is horribly flat! Have I ever told you that . . . I am very proud of you for losing those twenty pounds. You were never really all that fat! Have I ever told you that . . . you do a lot more good than bad. Give yourself on the back a little pat! Nov. 8, 2020 For the Have I Ever Told You That...... Poetry Contest of John Lawless After 44 years of wedded bliss (more or less), we became officially old when we just got on Medicare this year!

Oh, Andrea, as we learn after years together the "dance of love" takes on some bizarre forms over time. Thanks for entering the contest

I really enjoyed your poem. Your husband sounds very much like mine. I make my husband listen to my finished poems, he does reluctantly but rolls his eyes. I have to say he laughed at my entry in this competition also. Congratulations on your winning placement.

This was a fun read, including your prologue "now turn the news back on", haha! You got a couple zingers in, but balanced it with some sweet compliments. Hope you have a winner ~ John

LOL Really enjoyed this poem, Andrea. We all have our imperfections; it's great that you have managed to accept each other "as is" for 40 years! Best wishes in the contest. Hugs, Carolyn PS-Men seem to enjoy limericks more than serious poetry, unless they are poets themselves.

Cute Andrea, I like your Title and then how you start the poem from 'The old lady' - The first verse I love, followed by the second last one because my husband has also just lost 22.5 pounds and I too, am very proud of him. Blessings and hugs, Jennifer.

Well, this is all too weird. Are you absolutely certain that you are not MY wife... you sound very much like her... Except she doesn’t write me great poetry.
