For Old Time's Sake
For old time’s sake
The night was cold and devilish too
You pushed me said I’m leaving you
Belligerently you slammed the door
Crushing my heart some beastly claw
I hear the poet who said loved and lost
So much pain no fitting adroit riposte
Time’s the great healer revelation came
Hardened my resolve shifted the blame
Tragically immature couldn’t act your age
A small altercation only answered with rage
Took me a while to eventually see this thing
He had riches and luxury your perpetual fling
Been gone a year when your letter came
Stage four and alone end of the game
Gone your beauty like a wilted rose
Ultimately this is the path you chose
Confusing thoughts my mind assail
As I ponder and look beyond the veil
I see this isolated piece of earth
Desolate destitute nothing of worth
Tough decision like the setting of the sun
I will nurse and warm you till day is done
Don’t do it it’s another costly mistake
But I must even if it’s just for old time’s sake
