Footsteps

Footsteps of today become footprints of yesterday-

Leaving a trail of one's life events.

Signs of where they've been-signify where they are going.

Footsteps clear and vigorous, strong, and light-

Mile after mile on the sands of life.

Becoming sluggish and weak all at the hands of time.

                                     Fumbling one over the other-

Until footsteps of today become footprints of yesterday.

I couldn't help but compare this to the hit song of yesteryear by Steve Lawrence with the same title. I see it bears no resemblance to the song, but it is fascinatingly descriptive nonetheless. Impressive.
