Football Not Coming Home
Standing on the shoulder's of giant's
Where we over reliant
To place our faith in the footballing God's
When the final whistle drew deep intakes of breath
And the crowd stood silent
Our race was run
And the scoreline revealed we had sadly not overcome
For us the end had come
And joy was undone replaced by tear's
No more beer's to throw
Nothing left to cheer
It is as we feared
Another opportunity missed another clenched fist
Why does our failure so peresist
Why is the knife always stuck firmly in our back
Is this ever destined to be our lot in life
Never the wife always the bridesmaid
Back to work for me even though I took of Friday
Feels like 1 step forward 2 steps sideways
You never know but your gut always feels
And has learnt how to deal with bad luck
And boy does it suck having coming unstuck once again
And it comes as little consolation how close we came again
Say what you will we failed again
All is left is to take our medicine like men
And to drink ourselves into a stupor again
No 1 likes a sore loser
So raise a glass and may this toast come pass
That 1 day in the not to distant future
Our day will surely come
And football will finally come home
