Fools Rush In

Fools Rush In By Rick Rucker My lover said to me today, She doesn’t feel her age, no way! I told her, as long as there is an “oldies” love song, That I will keep going strong, Not only did they have the beat, But they had the lyrics sweet, The words that could melt her heart, And ensure you would never part, I remember that I was quite bold, Was it due to 60’s gold? I owe my name to a quirk of fate, That means more to me, of late, In my fourth grade class, Another student and I reached an impasse, Richard was our shared name, Our teacher wanted one of us the change, instead of being the same, As Richard seemed to me a little formal, I decided that Rick was more normal, As Rick Nelson had outstanding fame, I thought that I would somehow gain, He had taken the country by storm, I even saw him, at a concert, perform, But here is the thing, I did not look like him, nor could I sing! Such was the lunacy of my plan, Conceived by a very young man, No lasting harm was done, I grew up, and had fun, But I felt Rick Nelson was a kindred spirit, And of his death, was crushed to hear it, When my fiancée and I are together, I often speculate on whether, Without Rick’s first name, Would my life have turned out the same? I will likely never know, But I will never go slow, I play the music above the din, After all, “Fools Rush In!”
