Flying South One Autumn Day

as red leaves turn to dust
and a chill is in the air,
I see the wild geese
in perfect formation fly
off to southern climes.
a bit of me longs to go along
for soon I'll hear old winter's song...

I am sure I read this lovely poem before, but can't see any comments! Several birds come to Malta in late autumn, flying away from their cold winters. I can understand why you get the urge to go along with them! Congratulations on this deserved win, Barbara. May your winter be kind on you! // paul

Amazing imagery displayed in this short poetic piece. The longing for that favored season to extend for us, is deeply expressed. Enjoyable overall. Check out some of my poems. Might find some you like. Peace.

Reminds me of my childhood and seeing the wild geese fly over heading even further south. Old winter's song was tough back when I was a kid. Enjoyed this write immensely..

What a picturesque and beautiful write Barbara. One can imagine and can see and feel the sketches of Autumn painted by you on the Canvas in few lines. Especially the longing to hear the winter's song remains the soul of this Beautiful Poem. Great write. You too appear to have an ear for Music and thank you for your kind words on my new Poem on Kashmir. Love and best wishes always...Ravindra K Kapoor
