Flowers

She wakes up in a place unknown Confused & with a headache She sees a boy in the bed with her, all alone As she puts on her clothes she sees that she has bruises They kind of remind her of flowers She cries out, “I did not choose this” She goes into her room all day Missing her classes Seeing her friends but staying away Remembering last night little by little The party, the drinking But all she drank was water Not being able to figure out the piece missing Confused & with a headache She falls asleep like a baby

Serious subject matter! I like the opposition in the first and last lines--waking up in a place unknown (as a young adult) and falling asleep like a baby in a place that is known and safe. And one wonders--in this second sleep does she dream.
