Flower 3
In flower’s noisy popularity
lies it charm for majority,
my fever fleeing when it is detached:
A couple helping that has been mismatched,
To their mouths lifted and delicately kissed
like something just found long missed,
I with a misgiving that it might disappear
And me torture before it does reappear,
Going ahead to place one under lock and key
Almost like a ship tied to a quay.
Even in its name
Is something of fame,
Very nice to pronounce
Impossible to renounce,
My daughter to keep bearing it,
Until it’s her turn for the pit:
A hope it shall her fetch contentment
And perchance a plush appointment,
From someone with a flight of fancy
Who knows!, some very rich lady Nancy?
Decorators want it in the hall
like Jesus had desired Paul
For being a moveable sight on a table
And a coiling wonderment round a cable:
The consoling bundle by a bed.
Upon which has been led a dead,
Mourners filing in with a less sorrowful look,
Their becalmed nerves almost a readable book…
Has none of the features of the foul
Not what one would see and want to howl.
The Heavens, I know, have reflected on Flower
And what to say wouldn’t take an hour
Quite a lot shall end up sharing with us
And I don’t see this causing any fuss
“Tender hearts swayed by it stop their cry
Fast making up their minds their tears to dry.
They would on every flower rivet their eyes
Ready to buy it if you’d name your price,
Their breasts first hitting it with a zeal,
Their hands making it a superb meal”.
