Flickering In the Wind

A candle flickers in the wind. It’s wants to fight, it won’t give in. It wants to burn, it wants to shine. It thinks it’s as hot as the sun, as bright as daylight. The candle flickers in the rain. It soldiers on through the icy pain. It suffers terribly as it loses heat. But it waits and burns to hold its keep. It remembers nights where its light was like dawn. It remembers people holding it full stretch to provide sight warn. It remembers smiles when it lightened into flame. It remembers hands protecting it from the wind and rain. Cast aside it lingers on. Though weakened now it still holds on. But its wick is too quickly soon to die. So it drops its heat, lets it flame go out as its last goodbye.
