Flesh and Soul

I wish I could live for eternity,*
Spend every day and night
Just gazing at your beauty.

I would defy the gods,
Challenge fate,
And change the course of my life.

I'd kill for you—
Seize my heart from loving anyone else—
If that's what it takes
To be close to you,
To be with you.

I'd stand at the crossroads
Between heaven and hell,
And take whichever path you choose.

I'd spend my days praying—
Praying, praying, and praying—
That you would feel the same.

I wish you could hear me—
My soul cries out:
I love you.
I love the version of myself I become
When I'm with you.

I'd become a better person,
If that's what it takes,
To spend my heavenly days with Jesus,

Knowing that I followed
Your voice—
The voice that always
Guides me toward the good.

I'd smile for you,
Be happy,
Not because I'm special,
But because I'm saved.
